Depression is an OptionDepression is a choice, my dear,
And happiness the same
You choose this illness, don’t you?
What a tragic little game.
Depression is an option, love
Just get up out of bed
Take your tears and worries
And just smile now instead.
Depression is a choice, you see,
And so is suicide.
Just sit back, kick your feet up, dear
Enjoy this perfect ride.
Get over your own standards
Of what everyone should be.
Just smile for once, and maybe
You’ll be living perfectly.
...
But...
Depression is an illness
That we feel so deep within.
Why would anybody choose
To write poetry on their skin?
Unless there lies a reason, dear,
I would not choose to die.
If depression was an option...
Well...
I’d choose to say goodbye.  Bring me a MeadowIf I asked you to paint me a picture,
            But took your brushes and colors,
Could bring to me a meadow,
            Far better than any others?
Could you show me the bright and vivid greens,
                    Or help me see the clouds in the soft blue sky?
Could you show me how the willow bends,
                    As the wind comes blowing by?
Is it possible for you to bring,
            Autumn in your pocket?
With all the little extra things,
            Like the leaves about to plummet?
I want to know how the air feels,
            Is it crisp cool and is it sweet?
Could you show me just that,

  Leaders... I am a wondering giant,
        In a land of little people.
Yet I feel as a small,
        As he who is level with the grass.
For who am I,
        That I should stand taller than those around me?
Who am I,
        To lead the way out of the dark?
For do I not myself,
        Cast a shadow longer than those around me?
Do I not also,
        Cry at the sight of my fears?
I too have insecurities,
        They too plague my mind.
Yet "stand tall" they scream,
        "Lead us" they beg as I struggle to my feet.
For do you not know,
        That within every man is a leader?
Within every leader,
        A frightened child.
I am a wondering giant,
        In a land of giants yet to grow.
